French filmmakers Thibout Bertrand, Guillaume Lebeau and Benjamin Clavel have flown from Paris to L.A. to present the American debut of their just released documentary Red In Blue at the Left Coast Forum. The 57 minute film is especially timely as the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution is this Nov. 7.

Red In Blue includes clips from American movies about the Bolshevik uprising going back to silent movies and includes scenes from David Lean’s Dr. Zhivago, Warren Beatty’s Reds, the animated feature Anastasia and more. The documentary also features archival footage and original interviews with Warren Beatty, a U.S. Red plus French and American film historians, including Ed Rampell, co-founder of Hollywood Progressive, author of Progressive Hollywood, A People’s Film History of the United States.

Rampell will participate in the post-screening Q&A with Red In Blue’s director Thibout Bertrand and producer/screenwriter Guillaume Lebeau. (Rampell will also moderate a Left Coast Forum panel on “Free Speech and Censorship in the Trump Era” with actor/activist Mike Farrell and Jim Lafferty, Executive Director of the National Lawyers Guild in L.A. at 12 noon, Sunday, Nov. 5.)

The French filmmakers have screened clips of Red In Blue at the Oct. 27 Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Hollywood Blacklist at the Writers Guild Theater and on Oct. 29 at the L.A. Workers Center’s screening of V.I. Pudovkin’s The End of St. Petersburg as part of the “Ten Films That Shook the World” cinematic celebration of the Russian Revolution centennial. But the Left Coast Forum screening is the first time their entire documentary will be screened in the USA and only the second time Red In Blue has been publicly shown, following its recent premiere on the French vintage film channel, Cine Plus Classic.
